Mark Jacobs, a partner in Jacobs Joinery & Shopfitters works in an environment that he loves and one in which he always knew he wanted to be. From a family of cabinet makers, his interest in carpentry started at a young age and despite the fact that he was advised that this was not a good trade to follow he ended up becoming a qualified joiner. Using experience gained from his father and his natural affinity to carpentry, Mark passed his trade test without having done an apprentership.
Mark Jacobs
Working for a company that did cabinet making confirmed his desire to work in this field and he eventually left the company to start his own business. Like many other businesses, Door Spec, started from his garage at home and as it grew new premises were found in a complex in Willowton.
From fixing and hanging doors, his services soon expanded to include the manufacture and installation of purpose made shop fitting products and necessitated a name change to Jacobs Joinery & Shopfitters. The company moved to Mkondeni, and has been in its current premises since 1996.
Tony Wilson
Historically the company is a family business, with Mark’s sister Sally Campbell being a partner at one stage, and now her son Tony Wilson being a partner in the company. Tony joined the company once he had completed his schooling and also showed and inborn aptitude for shopfitting. He has been involved in all aspects of the company from being a general assistant, to estimating, to project management, and currently the management of production. While Tony handles production, Mark is responsible for marketing, sales, and project management.
From humble beginning Mark and Tony have taken this family-owned company to a new level - one in which they are now a national and international supplier of joinery and shop fitting products. They plan to keep Pietermaritzburg as their head office and base from which they can deliver a quality product backed up by superior service.
